Mortlake proposal ACCIONA Energy, a global renewable energy company, has submitted its planning application for a wind farm near Mortlake. The proposed Mortlake Wind Farm comprises two sites; Mortlake East and Mortlake South. The Mortlake East site is located approximately 9.5 kilometres east of Mortlake and the Mortlake South site is located approximately 5 kilometres south of Mortlake. Comprising 96 wind turbines, the Mortlake Wind Farm would produce enough green electricity to power approximately 86,000 households. |

Key Statistics Jobs: The proposed wind farm will create approximately 100 construction jobs on site, with up to 21 permanent operations and maintenance jobs ongoing for the life of the wind farm. Investment: The proposed wind farm will inject about $126 million into the national economy (estimated 36% of project costs) as a result of tower manufacture, civil works, electrical works, engineering services and support services that are sourced during the construction phase. Rates: The proposed Mortlake Wind Farm will contribute rates to Council representing approximately 1.6% of Council’s total rate income. Climate change: The proposed Mortlake Wind Farm will offset approximately 520,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year. This is equivalent to removing approximately 119,000 cars off the road each year. |
